Snackalicious Super Dishes

You're Invited--Click to learn more!
I had a completely different post written for today but I came on here and worked my little hiney off...oh be quiet I can dream of a little hiney can't I.....to prepare this post. There is something going on and it's too fun for words. Well to me anyway because I love to cook and I'm always looking at different recipes.
You see that incredibly adorable button up there? Well that leads to Robin over at Pensieve and she is hosting the Snackalicious Super Dishes. Now I'm not going to pretend I know as much as I should about this so you're going to have to go to 'You're Invited' link above to read all the details, but I saw that button and thought it was so cute I wanted to participate. I believe the deadline was yesterday the 25th but I don't care. I'm linkin and participating anyway because I've never followed the rules in my life and I'm not about to start now. Plus Robin said I could still participate.
So I'm going to participate and show my Slow Cooker Sweet and Sour Ribs because as I got looking at my 'Recipe' section I now see I post more pictures of the food I cook and hardly a recipe to go along with the picture (derrr!).
The recipe is from the Company's Coming Slow Cooker Recipes Cookbook by our own Edmontonian Jean Paré.
I have a lot of the Company's Coming Cookbooks and like my children, if you were to ask me which one was my favorite I would have no answer. I love them all. I use my slow cooker at least once a week in the winter, so this particular cookbook has many dog-eared pages in it.
SWEET AND SOUR RIBS
BROWN SUGAR SAUCE
Brown Sugar Sauce:
Layer ribs in a 5 quart (5 L) slow cooker, spooning sauce over each layer. Cover. Cook on Low for 10 to 12 hours or on High for 5 to 6 hours until ribs are very tender.
Joy's Note: After the ribs had been in the slow cooker for just over 5 hours, I took them out and put them in a shallow oven-proof dish and poured (after using a fat separator to get rid of some excess...fat) all the sauce over the ribs. I then put them in a 350 degrees F oven for about half an hour and this really thickened up the sauce and gave the ribs a really nice color.
I serve the ribs with Basmati rice and we spoon the sauce over the rice for a really great flavour.

Wow, those ribs look divine, the shine off them makes me want to reach into the computer and gobble them up.

Y e a h, Baaaabbeeeee.
Now THESE would be the HIT of a Super Bowl party, or any ol' party.
And (clapclap), GLAD you decided to post it! This recipe needs to be seen at least once a year (on your blog)!! Umm hummm, it's that yummy!
AND IF ANY OF YOUR READERS had a previously posted recipe that would be in keeping with the carnival, they can re-post 'em and link all weekend (cookbook drawing will be on Monday--13 will be given away in all).
:)

I hate to admit this, but at the ripe old age of 42, I've never owned a slow cooker, crock pot or anything similar. After reading this recipe, I think I need to run out and buy one :)

Oooh I got more excited over this recipe than any other I've seen so far. I love ribs and I am going to make some. I have made them in a dutch oven before but never in a crock pot. But I have a nice crock pot. Must do. :D The picture is great!

Joy,
I started making the ribs today. I have them in the crock pot now. I cannot wait until they are done. The sauce was so tasty. Yum!

I have a couple Company's Coming cookbooks. I pretty much do the same for sweet and sour, but use cornstarch. I think I might try it with flour so it is more gravy like and less clear, maybe a little of each. You could use any meat (I say this because I don't eat pork), and I am thinking tomorrow would be a good day to throw some beef in the crockpot for this. I would so be browning it too for that extra nice flavour. Great recipe.

Great! Now I'm am totally salivating for PIG. BN doesn't like it so I never cook it. But when I finally get a day all by myself, I sneak down to the BBQ place and get a pulled-pork sandwich. I think I due for a day out alone.

That looks delicious. My posted recipe comes from Company's Cooking as well. I just bought a new slow cooker today, and was looking for my slow cooker cook book. Foolish me, I had bought the fondue one instead. I don't think I've done a fondue in about 7 years.
