Has It Been A Week Already?
The graduation of T child number two is over and things will now get back to normal around here. Well somewhat normal. It's almost summer. Tell me you wouldn't rather be outside if the days are nice and the air is fresh? After the very long winter we had here in Alberta, I plan on taking every opportunity there is to be outside. You know. Just in case it snows again and I miss a nice day. And don't laugh because here in Alberta? It's been known to snow in July.
Michael's graduation was lovely and nice and everything went exceptionally well. I am now going through over 300 pictures in the hopes I managed to get at least one good shot of the day. Is it just a dream to hope for the day where I won't have to take so many pictures to get just one good picture? I doubt it. From everything I've heard and read, that's exactly what it takes. A million pictures and if you get two or three good shots, you're doing good. Get an exceptional shot and it's like winning the lotto. I heard that on some runway model show one time and I'm beginning to believe it.
So the day was grand, our boy graduated and everyone had a great time. And if they didn't? I say too bad for them. I heard some people behind us complaining about the ceremonies and I wanted to turn around and smack them. Seriously. I knew the family who was sitting behind us and when the son's date kept making rude comments on how boring the ceremonies were, I wanted to stand up, turn around and tell her to leave. At one point there was a choir that came out and sang and when they began to sing this girl started laughing. I wanted to put my fist through her teeth. I didn't. Because I pride myself on being kind and gentle if I can help it. But I will admit to thinking it. The girl was obviously a date and to come to an event and trash and pick apart every little thing just made me want to smack her. Sit there and shut your mouth. I'm sure it made her date feel really good knowing she was having such a horrible time at...for her...a free event. I tell you, some people's kids.
But. That was very minor and easily dealt with because I just ended up tuning her out and focused on my son graduating. Which he did. And looked so handsome in his suit. And his date is an absolute doll. And...squeeee!! I could go on and on.
Kelsey took some pictures too. This one I laughed at when I saw it because.....well....the conversation on the dance floor went something like......
Me: Oh look! Kelsey is taking our picture Gregg. Should we stand like this? Or maybe like this? Smile big. But not too big. Just smile naturally. Ok stand like this so the picture won't show how fat I am. Oh and I have to smile a certain way otherwise my four double chins will show. Smile and say you love me. Why are you looking at me like that? If I poke you in the belly will you smile? Smile like MEEeeeee Gregg!
Gregg: You...are...SUCH...a wingnut.

Awww Joy, you look so happy. And you look really good in red. And for someone who doesn't like the dentist, you sure do have nice white teeth. And...I'm glad Michael's grad went well. But you should have said something to the chicky behind you.

You guys look great! And you...My Lady, look lovely!
Listening to all that you did to get ready for graduation makes me guilty - the last graduation I attended I wore shorts - so did everyone else, but that is beside the point. Not to mention that it was outdoors and 100 degrees Fahrenheit. My husband and I didn't even participate in ceremonies when we earned our undergraduate degrees or his advanced degree - shame.
With all of that said - I would never complain at a graduation ceremony!
Blogs are making me realize what a casual (maybe even disrespectfully so) part of the world that I live in. There is very little that we make a big deal out of. My daughter has a spring tea (like Emma's daughter) this week and I was considering not even attending. Maybe we will go....maybe.
Sorry I was so long winded.

Aww you're a doll Emma, thanks for the compliments. And the teeth? Do I dare reveal my secret? *whispering*...photoshop. But don't tell anyone I told you that.
Beckie - Why thank you. Trust me, you are never long-winded when it comes to my blog. I enjoy long comments :o) And I say whatever we decide to do at that very moment was right for the moment and that's it. When spring tea comes along this week, the decision you make will be exactly what it's meant to be for that moment. If that makes sense. It's my motto anyway. Which is probably why I confuse a lot of people.

I don't know you and your husband, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I'll bet that picture perfectly captures your personalities and relationship.

My dear friend - how happy you look! And Gregg looks so proud as well! I've been dying for a picture since Friday!! And this is a great one! No 4 chins - no bulging tummies.....:0)
I've been known to say things to people who are talking behind me....to the point where The Man doesn't like to take me to places where that might happen....I just get too upset. I don't have the ability to tune them out - I wish desperately that I did - but I don't. You are a far better person than me to have been so ladylike and calm. I'm sure Michael was just as proud of you as you were of him.

You guys are such a cute couple!! Congratulations to Michael! Too bad you had a complaining bimbo behind you! I hate things like that...I try not to say anything too...now people who budge in lines that I have been waiting in forever I have no problem speaking up and telling them where the back of the line is. My husband just loves when I do this.

RUDE PEOPLE SUCK!!! Screw kind and gentle; you should have stood up and said "excuse me, but my child is trying to graduate and I would appreciate it if you would keep your extemporaneous comments to yourself you little witch." She would have been so confused by the word extemporaneous, she would have been immediately silenced. Or at least in my fantasy she would have. Then again, maybe it was the large fantasy mallet I bashed her over the head with as I was making the speech that actually shut her up. Hmmmmm......

Glad to hear the graduation went well! Yay!
And most people just smile rather than having a paragraph of conversation when there picture is being taken. Ha!

Congrats to your son, glad the graduation went well, despite the obnoxious girl behind you.
And I love the photo, you look so genuinely happy in it!

Mahala - LOL yep. I do believe the picture says and captures it all.
Aims - I assure you I am not a better person then you :o) She just caught me on a good day.
Heather - ohhhhh budgers in line?? HATE Budgers. And don't even get me started on people in movie theatres who kick the back of my seat. Those people I want poke with an incredibly sharp stick. Right in their eye.
Jennifer - excuse me while I look up extempmumblemumble :o)
Teena - Ah yes. But then most people are not me. Which is what makes me unique....and slightly twitchy. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Karina - Thanks so much Karina. When it comes to these three children of mine....no matter how insane they drive me some days...I can honestly say I am genuinely happy. Oh and Gregg. Gregg makes me genuinely happy too. You buying that? :o)
AFF - Really? Wingnut is quite popular around the T home. As is spazz, fruitloop.....

Fantastic picture! The expression on Gregg's face is priceless. I think it's great when one spouse can tease the other and they don't get mad. I think that makes for a great relationship. My oldest daughter graduated from college on Saturday with a BSN in nursing. Yea! It was a most excellent day too.
Posted by: junebug | May 06, 2008 at 07:53 AM
Katie - is a doll and I'm glad to be back Katie!
Jeanne - Oh Jean, you're sweet. Dillusional but sweet. There will be full on pictures of me in Facebook and you will see those chins and the bodacious hips. EEk!
Robinella - Thanks. A wingnut would be....well....me! Think slightly spazzy, a little hyper, totally harmless....need I go on?
junebug - HUGE congratulations to your daughter on the BSN in nursing! Whahoooooo!!! When I was in the hospital with my surgery I said you couldn't pay me enough to be a nurse. You know. To deal with the likes of people like me :o) And yes Gregg and I can tease and darn it anyway we rarely get mad at each other any more. Gregg says it's because we did all our fighting when we were younger. Oooooweeee did we have some good fights back then!

Congrats on the graduate - love the picture of you! Oh I hate people who comment all the way through things so negatively! Glad you were able to tune her out a bit.

Digital is so great -- can you imagine having to pay to process regular film to find out if any of the pictures are worthy.
I hide behind people for pictures. It's not "Will this picture make me look fat?"
it is because I am overweight.
I blame it all on menopause(and peanut butter and jelly)

I LOVE that picture!! You are so happy and I can totally see him saying that through clenched teeth.

Sounds awesome! Love the photo and what you wrote is hilarious. Made me laugh when I looked at the picture again. Gregg's face says it all!
And Emma's right. You look happy and gorgeous. :D
